HND Fine Art at "The Works" gallery in Birmingham.

HND Fine Art students from both first and second year displayed their work at the mid-year  exhibition, Entitled "Pioneers: Breaking Boundaries." The exhibition was extremely well attended and was thought to be one of the best mid-year shows of recent times due to the wide range of experimental work and high quality outcomes on display.

The two week experience at the gallery space giving the students a week to experiment with site-specific work and display methods and then requiring  a professional exhibition proved enormously beneficial again. The event underlines the Outline philosophy of giving students experience in the real world working in the actual settings and circumstances that they will encounter as professional fine artists.

A huge well done to all the students who took part for their hard work in producing the work and the professional way in which they went about displaying the pieces to their best advantage.

HND Fine Art experimentation at "The Works" Gallery as part of the mid- year show experience

HND Fine Art, first and second year, students engaged in their two week experimentation at "The Works" gallery in Birmingham which culminates in the opening of their mid-year exhibition. This year it was branded as "The Pioneers: Breaking Boundaries."

As can be seen from the photographs a great deal of experimentation took place, from traditional abstract painting, three-dimensional drawing, drawing as a performative activity to students using aspects of the space to inspire new work that was site-specific.

Whilst the show branding "Pioneers: Breaking Boundaries" might seem ambitious many students broke through boundaries of their own as they significantly advanced and developed their personal fine art languages.

Following a successful written proposal and interview Lauren Buffery works on a "live" drawing event in association with "The loft" organisation.

Lauren worked in the Oasis market in Birmingham at The Loft's Gallery space where she produced a drawing a day during the week's residency. The space was available for members of the public to enter at any time and talk to Lauren about the work. The student's study two units in the second year, Commissioned Artwork and Site-Specific, which  encourages students to engage in the community and external organisations, becoming familiar with writing proposals and dealing with clients.

The theme "Faces of Birmingham" was designed to raise awareness of the different ethnicities and  cultural diversity of Birmingham seen through the faces of older residents who have lived in the area for some time. The old, whilst a resource of experience are often overlooked by society and Lauren designed  this project to celebrate age and diversity.
